I’m still lounging in the dark, another whisky in my right hand, when the front door finally opens. She tries to be quiet, but she’s failing miserably. Even if I was passed out cold, she’d still have woken me up. Between her high heels clacking on the wooden floor and the racket she’s making as she takes her coat and shoes off, it’s almost like she’s not even trying.

I turn on the lamp next to me and set my drink on the table. “Where were you?” My voice is low, my tone firm.

She jumps in surprise. “Jeez. You scared me. What are you doing here?” she asks, a hand over her chest.

“Waiting for you,” I say, standing up and sauntering towards her.

“Why? Do I have a curfew?” she teases with a smirk. “I was out with Roxy. It took me forever to get back here.”

Goodness. “Where did you go?”

“Jolly’s.”

I frown. “That’s not that far.”

“No, but I had to pretend to take the Victoria Line as if I were going home. Roxy was taking it too for a few stops, so I had to stay on it.”

“Right.” I clear my throat. “Well, even if this is a temporary arrangement, I think that, given we live together, maybe it’d be wise to implement some rules.”

She props a hand on her waist. “You are going to give me a curfew, aren’t you?”

I roll my eyes. Always so dramatic. “Of course not. Maybe ‘rules’ isn’t the right word. ‘Guidelines’ might be a more suitable term.”

“Fine,” she says, throwing her bag on the kitchen bar and sitting on the stool.

“When you go out at night, just text me so I don't end up, um, wondering where you are.” Worrying would be a more suited term here.

“Okay. Same goes for you, then.”

I scratch my head. “Fair enough. Also, the housekeeper comes every Tuesday and Friday. I gave her last week off since you were sick. But when she comes, make sure to tidy your room a bit. It’ll be easier for her to clean.”

She raises an eyebrow, and the corner of her mouth twists. “Are you suggesting I’m messy?”

“I saw your flat, remember?” I tease.

She gives me a pointed look. “I was coming back from a trip, and I was sick. Plus, I don’t have a housekeeper. Cut me some slack.”

I hold my hands up. “Fine. Sorry I brought it up.”

“Okay, then,” she says, standing up to retreat to her room.

“Oh, and one last thing. When using the hot tub, please wear a bathing suit.”

She stops dead in her tracks, not daring to move. Her head slightly jerks left and right probably searching for hidden security cameras.

“There aren’t any in here, but there are cameras on the roof.” To my utmost pleasure.

Her body goes rigid.

“Don't worry. I deleted the footage. Good night,” I add before turning around, a sly grin spreading across my face.
